The Puducherry Commercial Taxes Department which contributes more than 65% of the State’s Own Tax Revenue (SOTR) was set up in the year 1966 for administration of the Pondicherry General Sales Tax Act, 1967 and Central Sales Tax Act, 1956 in the Union Territory of Puducherry. The taxes collected by this Department are utilized for manifold developmental activities of the Government aimed at promoting the economic well being and social welfare of the inhabitants of the Union Territory of Puducherry and have contributed significantly to the phenomenal industrialization and economic development of Puducherry.

There are four Assessment Divisions in Puducherry region and one each in three outlying regions of Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam.

The Deputy Commercial Tax Officer, Yanam is the Registering and Assessment Authority for Yanam.

This Office is operating only Non-Plan Head of Account for incurring of expenses towards Salaries, Wages, Travelling & Office Expenses. An amount of Rs.1,15,000/- is being incurred every month towards the payment of salaries & wages to the staff.

This Office is not operating any Schemes implemented by the Government of Puducherry.
